1st "Official" day of summer...June 11th

Today was our first official day of summer.  My goal for this summer (and what I'm trying to teach the kids) is to have a healthy balance of fun AND taking care of our responsibilities.  My hope is that we'll be able to get up in the morning...eat, get dressed and then work as a team to get done whatever it is around that house that needs to get done.  If we keep up with this that should mean that we only have an hour (actually should be much less) of actual work to do...then the entire rest of the day should be available to have fun.  So far, so good.  :)  Also, a new rule has been implemented.  Don't even ask for computer/Wii time if you haven't taken care of your responsibilities.  Responsibilities include cleaning your room (and in the case of the girls that also includes the playroom since that's where their toys are) and getting your reading done.  (And no, they don't get, nor do they ask for, computer time every day.  ;)  )  Their school has a summer reading program and at the beginning of the school year there will be prizes for those who complete it.  There are three different tiers, and being true to Jaden, he has decided that he will achieve the highest tier.  Lofty goal for anyone.  In order to reach the third tier he has to read at least 2001 minutes over the summer.  Well, we divided 2001 by the number of days this summer and he needs to read at least 25 minutes a day.  Anyway...on with the first day of vacation.  :)

Today was a pretty laid back day.  I didn't really want to plan anything.  Partly because I wanted to easy into it and partly because we've had someone sick here every day since the Friday before Memorial Day.  We just hung out at home together.  Our highlights were making Wacky cake in the afternoon...a first for me and getting a basketball hoop for the driveway.  The kids didn't know we were getting it and they were excited.  :)

No pictures for today...I didn't know I was going to be blogging yet.  ;)
