There were lots of first day of school jitters at our house....and they were all from me. As a mom, we all want our kids happy and healthy, but we or really I want to know that they are "OK" all of the time. I know that starting a new school can be a little scary. Gretchen started Kindergarten this year, so for her the entire experience was new. She was very excited and generally doesn't have any problems making friends. Rachel started 1st grade...the first year to go every day. She is bubbly, friendly and out-going, BUT she can be a little shy at the same time. Jaden really was my biggest concern. I think it would be tough to be the new guy in fourth grade. Not only have these kids all been together since Kindergarten, but in this neighborhood the kids are ALWAYS together, so they know each other really well. In the past, Jaden has ended up in a class full of very athletic boys. This has caused a problem at recess and it would break my heart to hear him come home sometimes and say he played by himself at recess. So anyway, on to this year. We met all of the teachers last week at open house and got the school tour. Everyone was ready. We are "walkers" this year so when it was time to leave we all headed out the door and over to the school. I managed to get everyone to their classrooms without any tears...on my part of course. Well, Jaden decided to go to his class himself...since he is in fourth grade you know. Rachel and Gretchen were so excited to get into their classrooms that I barely got a goodbye out of them. But as Luke and I walked home it was tough. I know that I can't protect them all of the time...and at some time I need to help them to have some independence...but they're still my babies...and they always will be. So, finally the time came to go and pick them up. Everyone had a wonderful day! Gretchen looked exhausted, but she loved it. Rachel had already made some friends and she and Gretchen ended up having recess at the same time. (Not sure if that was a first day of school thing or if it will be like that everyday that Gretchen has school.) Jaden made a friend too that he's played with both days. They have all been excited to go every morning which has made it easier for me too. I know not every day is going to go perfect...no day does. But, I really feel like this is a good school and a good district for us.

| It was very sunny...they weren't thrilled :) |
 |
| This is a funny one Rachel (1st grade) overly excited, Luke (almost 3) and Jaden (4th grade) distracted by something and Gretchen (Kindergarten) slightly irritated....typical :) |
