Catch up

Well, since the last post the fish have all died. So much for us having pets...even though fish are not pets no matter what Bob may tell you. I'm also no closer to getting a dog than I was before, but don't think that's means that I'm not going to keep trying. If nothing I'm persistent and consistent.

So far our summer has flown by. I don't even want to think about how much is left because I'm not ready for the little bit of warm weather we've had to leave us. Thankfully the weather has been good enough for the kids to spend a lot of time outside. Rachel would live out there if I'd let her. Gretchen loves it too. Jaden will go out as long as it's not too hot and then he feels he needs to come back in. It's a good thing that our yard is totally tree covered so at least there is shade. (But it doesn't do much for my tan.)

We spent the 4th of July at the lake with my family and it definitely was an event. The six of us stayed in a tent and it actually went very well. It was the tent that I grew up camping in and it's amazing how the tent that seems gigantic when I was 8 seems so small now. I guess it's all perspective...and two more kids in there. Jeremy, Shari and Evie also spent the weekend in a tent too, but they'd already had practice. We spent the weekend fishing (of which we didn't catch nearly enough fish) having campfires and just spending time together. It was a lot of fun. I learned a new way to fish. Jaden kept bugging us all of the time to go fishing. So we went out three times. Well, we found out that what he really wanted to do was drive the boat. He would drive to the fishing spot, sit down with his book and then as soon as my dad would get a fish on his line, Jaden would go over, help reel it in, claim it as his and then go back to his book. I had to let him know that you can't let someone else do all of the work and then claim the victory as your own. The weather was beautiful and surprisingly enough with all of those kids next to the lake it was very relaxing.
