Yesterday, since it was family day and we were without on very important member of our family, I decided to do something extra special with the kids. Jaden had the day off of school so we decided to go see Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. A few weeks ago the kids saw a preview for it and when I found out it was coming out yesterday I decided that would be the perfect distraction for us. We headed down to Bloomington so one of my friends could watch Luke and off to the movies we went. Rachel and Gretchen had never been to the theater before so I was very excited for them. They all of the movie...but I think that Gretchen may have loved the popcorn and pop more. (Yes, I broke the "you have to be 3 before you get any pop" rule...just this once.) After the movie we went and picked up Luke and my friend and did a quick little bit of shopping. In lieu of the snow yesterday morning (we didn't get any that stayed...but it's only a matter of time) I decided that we better get Rachel a coat and snow pants...and both of the girls needed new boots.
Jaden is still really enjoying school. Our conference with his teacher went great. She is the perfect teacher for him and he loves her. We've made a few trips to the library and he has been picking out some books that really interest him. I likes fiction, but he will sit for an hour and read non-fiction books...and then read them again the next day. The latest one he has been reading is on ancient Egypt...I know, he's only 6 1/2, but he picked it out.
Rachel and Gretchen are as busy as ever. Gretchen is really growing up into a little girl. She insists on doing everything herself...including trying to put on her own diapers. In my opinion, if you can put on your own diaper...it's time to get rid of it. We've had a couple days of trying it with just undies on, but maybe when I'm home alone is not the best time to try to potty train. Rachel is completely train...PTL! Once she decided that being potty trained was a good idea it went quick. Don't these girls know that I like to work on my timing...not theirs. :)
Luke is getting so big. I can't believe he's already seven weeks old today. He's starting to smile and coo. Rachel can't wait until she can teach him how to crawl and doesn't really understand that it's going to be a while before she can do that. Unfortunately Luke isn't really excited about me eating dairy, so that has been an adjustment for us. His doctor thinks that it's something he'll grow out of fairly quickly and said I should just take it a week at a time and try introducing it again. So far I think I've been off it for about a month...but I'm waiting until Bob gets back home until I try it again...since being up all day and all night when I'm by myself doesn't sound like a lot of fun.
Here are a couple of pictures of Luke that I took the other day. I need to get some newer shots of everyone else and then I'll get them posted as well.
